Dost thou sense it?…

…The climate of evil descending upon this realm?

Malevolent forces muster to attack our land of Hyrule. In a realm beyond sight, there lies a golden relic; the Triforce. It keeps this land, its life, and justice in balance.

Only once has an evil hand touched the Golden Triangles. Yet, a chosen one who traveled through the deptch of time restored peace to our blessed world.

Zelda and a Hero of Time took their place among legends; harmony ruled the kingdom for a short time…

1 INT. ZELDA’S SLEEPING CHAMBERS – NIGHT 1
PRINCESS ZELDA is sleeping. She is having a nightmare.

DREAM SEQUENCE:

2 EXT. FOREST – NIGHT 2
We hear Epona walking in a forest. The sound slowly fades
away. Both GANONDORF’s and Zelda’s voices fade in and out,
telling the history of a dark past.
The dialogue does not occur between any specific characters.
They are short snippets revealing distinct characterization
and background details.

GANONDORF (V.O.)
My purpose, granted to me by the
gods…

ZELDA (V.O.)
How has it come to this…?

GANONDORF (V.O.)
I will gather the Triforce
fragments and Hyrule will be mine.

ZELDA (V.O.)
Noble goddesses, I pray to thee…
Help us bring peace to this world.
All I wish for this blessed land is
peace…

GANONDORF (V.O.)
It is undeniably clear that I would
one day rise to the task appointed
to me by the gods, a divine
entitlement. No hero will stand in
my path.

CUT TO:

3 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – CONTINUOUS 3
A battle rages on Hyrule Field. LINK and Zelda fight many
monsters. One after another, each evil minion falls.
Ganondorf steps forward and the commotion dies.

ZELDA
No, it can’t be! You were sealed
away!

Link attacks Ganondorf with his sword. Their weapons clash
several times. Ganondorf taunts Link with a few laughs. Link
pushes him away with a spin attack. Ganondorf parries, but
counters with a powerful, stunning blow to Link. Our hero
winces, but the wound is minor. Link strikes again. Zelda
reveals her bow-and-arrow and shoots Ganondorf – he is
pierced through the shoulder. Ganondorf moves toward Zelda
and he slaps her to the ground. She falls and hits the ground
hard. Link makes a final thrust for Ganondorf, but the evil
king turns around and fatally stabs our hero. Link falls to
the ground. Ganondorf turns to Zelda. She tries to crawl
away. He steps closer. The sounds of his chains and armor
clank against each other as he kneels down.

GANONDORF
Young Princess… I have returned.

Ganondorf cackles and the dream concludes.

4 INT. ZELDA’S SLEEPING CHAMBERS – NIGHT 4
Suddenly, Zelda wakes up screaming. She pants frantically.
IMPA, Zelda’s nursemaid, enters and runs to her side.

IMPA
Dear Princess!

ZELDA
Impa…

IMPA
Was it another dream?

ZELDA
Yes. But this one was more violent
than the others…
2.
IMPA
My Goddesses! When will this end?

ZELDA
(shaken)
Impa… I fear my dreams have
prophesied Hyrule’s fate.

IMPA
What do they say?

ZELDA
His return is nigh…

IMPA
Surely you speak of our Hero.

ZELDA
…No, Impa. Not our Hero.

A moment of silence. Before long, a fire begins to crackle.
YOU open the Book of Mudora and blow dust from it.
You flip through the pages until you arrive at a particular
passage; you begin reading.

In a Realm beyond sight,
The sky shines gold not blue.
There, the Triforce’s might
Makes mortal dreams come true.

You close the book.

Dost thou sense it? The climate of
evil descending upon this realm?
Malevolent forces muster to attack
our land of Hyrule. There lies
hidden a golden relic known as the
Triforce. It embodies the spirits
of the Three Golden Goddesses who
created this world. This ancient
essence keeps the land, its life,
and justice in balance through the
three spiritual virtues of power,
wisdom, and courage. The Hylian
people, the dominant race of this
land, have kept secret the location
of the Triforce since the dawn of
time. Only those closest to the
Royal Family know of its
whereabouts.
Only once has an evil hand been
placed upon the Golden Triangles.
3.
The Triforce separated and embodied
its three fragments within Princess
Zelda, the Evil King Ganondorf, and
an unlikely hero who traveled
through the depths of time to
restore peace to our world. This
Hero of Time took his place among
legends and harmony ruled the
kingdom for a short time…

The music climaxes.

5 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – DAY 5
A slight breeze blows across Hyrule Field as birds and
insects chirp. We hear the wind swim through blades of grass.

CUE “LEGEND OF ZELDA ANTHEM”

An epic, large-scale version of the traditional Legend of
Zelda anthem plays. It is heroic, epic, and reminds you
in a very powerful way why Hyrule is a great land!
The song transitions into something more peaceful and slow,
which represents Hyrule’s serenity. The music changes key
into something more foreboding. This darker melody
foreshadows the evil that is returning to Hyrule. The song
concludes.

6 EXT. KOKIRI FOREST ENTRANCE – NIGHT 6
Moblins, the evil soldiers of Ganondorf’s army, teem on the
edge of Kokiri Forest. Their grunts and bark-like snorts
slowly grow in volume. They drown out the peaceful soundscape
of Hyrule.
4.
MOBLIN COMMANDER
Again! CHARGE!

Three Moblins step forward to the edge of the forest. They
howl as the sounds of vines and tree limbs consume the
footfalls. The howls turn into screams as the vines pierce
through their bodies and tear away their limbs. Two Moblins
fall dead to the ground.

MOBLIN #1
Blood-gutted hell!

MOBLIN #2
The forest came alive and ate
them!

MOBLIN #3
Skewered like stuck pigs!!

MOBLIN #4
This isn’t workin’. We’ll
never get past the Kokiri
Forest’s magic barrier.

MOBLIN #5
(snort)
I say, we wait for Lord Ganondorf.

MOBLIN COMMANDER
And I say you follow orders! In
fact, you’re next…

Voices trail off at the heavy sound of hoof beats. Moblins
move back and fall to their knees. Their muttering fills the
air.

MOBLIN #1
(mutter)
Ganondorf… Returned…
Triforce…

MOBLIN #2
(mutter)
The Great One… Powerful…
Gods…

On the edge of Kokiri Forest, the
band of Moblins gave way before
their master. Ganondorf, atop a
black stallion, rode among them. He
looked down upon his minions. And
like a god, they gave him proper homage.

GANONDORF
(faintly amused)
What folly is this?

Ganondorf dismounts his horse and lands heavily onto the
ground.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Surely, you weren’t attempting to
enter these woods?
5.
MOBLIN COMMANDER
(terrified)
Y-you ordered an invasion of the
forest, my-my Lord

GANONDORF
(mildly annoyed)
You fools…
(amused again)
This barrier must fall. They may be
children, but even they must not be
underestimated.

MOBLIN COMMANDER
But how, Your Majesty? The
mightiest of Moblins–

GANONDORF
(dangerous edge)
–Is as nothing compared to the
King of Evil.

The Moblins whimper and cower.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
(bathed in majesty)
If I break the heart of the forest,
this ancient barrier will fall.
That will be a simple enough
task… with the help of my enemy’s
Shadow.

Ganondorf’s laugh looms in the air.

7 EXT. KOKIRI FOREST INTERIOR – NIGHT 7
The Kokiri people defend their home against the Moblins as
they try to invade the sacred forest. The children use their
weapons to rip the monsters apart. Screams fill the air as
the evil army falls to the ground. SARIA and MIDO, leaders of
the Kokiri Tribe, are at the frontlines of the defense. Saria
watches the destruction unfold.

SARIA
(nostalgic)
When evil returns, so shall the
Hero…

MIDO
(reserved jealousy)
I wish you would just forget him.
6.
SARIA
(offended)
Mido…

MIDO
Every time you look at The Lost
Woods, I know who you’re thinking
of. It’s been decades. He’s not
coming back.

SARIA
It’s been predicted. Have faith!
A twig snaps. Mido and Saria hear heavy breathing.

MIDO
What’s that?

SARIA
It’s him! It’s Link!

The music stirs, taking an ominous tone as DARK LINK steps
forward.

SARIA (CONT’D)
Link? Is something wrong?
(gasp)

MIDO
Saria!

Dark Link unsheathes his sword. Mido lunges forward.

MIDO (CONT’D)
Look out!

Mido pulls out his blade and it blocks Dark Link’s attack.
The two blades strike each other.

MIDO (CONT’D)
Run, Saria!

The two engage in a sword fight.

SARIA
Mido, No! NOOO!! Stop! STOP IT!

MIDO
Link!! You traitor!!

Dark Link performs a spin attack, slitting Mido’s throat.
Mido falls to the ground, drowning. He dies quickly.
7.
SARIA
MIDO! Noooo!

Dark Link slowly walks forward. Tears shed across Saria’s
face.

SARIA (CONT’D)
Who? Wha—what are you?

Saria tries to hide behind some bushes, but Dark Link follows
her with an eerie precision.

SARIA (CONT’D)
No… You don’t belong here. This
is some kind of dark magic.

Saria charges an energy beam. An ambient sound fills the
forest.

SARIA (CONT’D)
You cannot be here!

Saria releases her forest energy beam. Dark Link reflects the
attack with his shield and Saria is forced to the ground.

SARIA (CONT’D)
Ooooff!!!

Saria tries to get back to her feet, but she is unable. Dark
Link slowly walks forward.

SARIA (CONT’D)
No! Get away!

Dark Link places his sword against Saria’s chest.

SARIA (CONT’D)
(desperate)
Please… Goddesses…

Dark Link leans forward and slowly slides his sword into her
until it completely passes through her chest.

SARIA (CONT’D)
(poignant whine)

The sickening friction of flesh and blade ends Saria’s life.
The ethereal ambience fades and gives way to dark battle
music.
8.
Ganondorf’s evil magic had taken
the form of Shadow Link – a
doppelganger who was able to
penetrate the Kokiri Forest and
trick its children into thinking
the Hero of Time had returned…

KOKIRI #1
Look out! Here they come!

Moblins charge into the Kokiri Forest. Billowing flames build
in intensity as the scene unfolds.

KOKIRI #2
Saria! She’s dead!

KOKIRI #1
(screams)

Kokiri #1 is killed.

MOBLIN COMMANDER
Kill them all! In the name of the
Great Ganondorf, slay them!

KOKIRI #3
Link, save us!
(screams)

Kokiri #3 is cut in half by Shadow Link. The battle sounds
slowly fade as Ganondorf’s triumphant laughter takes
prominence.

MOBLIN #3
(snorts)
Die!

Moblin #3 slays a Kokiri child. Ganondorf’s laughter fades.
The sound of roaring fires intermingles with a sad rendition
of Saria’s Song variant in minor key.

In that terrible moment, Ganondorf
destroyed the ancient magic that
had protected the Kokiri Forest.
The Kokiri people fought valiantly,
like the Hero of Time they honored.
But they couldn’t stand against the
Evil King’s army.
9.
The sounds of a forest fire linger before the silence.

8 EXT. HYRULE CASTLE GUARD POST – LATER 8
Guards are patrolling the front of Hyrule Castle.

The moon rose high into the sky,
and illuminated the dozens of
guards that stood watch before
Hyrule Castle. It had been decades
since anyone – or anything – had
attempted to break through the castle perimeters.

GUARD #1 and GUARD #2 partake in quiet conversation, while an
eerie wind blows across their cheeks.

GUARD #1
Hey, look at that orange glow on
the horizon! Right over there!

GUARD #2
Looks like fire. Is that the sacred
forest burning?!

GUARD #1
That’s impossible. It can’t be.

The eerie wind begins to blow harder. The soldiers hear an
odd moaning.

GUARD #2
What was that? Did you hear that?

GUARD #1
No… I didn’t hear a thing. Job
getting to ya, mate?

The wind intensifies and the moaning becomes more evident. A
sinister laugh echoes on the wind.
PHANTOM GANON appears.
10.
The swift breeze formed a shadow-like
creature. It penetrated the
two guards with its deep red eyes
and thick aura. Black smoke slowly
fell from the figure as it approached the two guards.

PHANTOM GANON
HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!

GUARD #2
OY!! STOP RIGHT THERE!!

Guard #2 blows his sentry whistle.

PHANTOM GANON
Heh, why call for help… if you’re
the last ones? HA HA HAAAA!

Guard #1 looks around and sees the other dead soldiers.

GUARD #1
(terrified)
The other soldiers are dead!

GUARD #2
N-n-now d-don’t come any closer!!
Phantom Ganon attacks Guard #1.

GUARD #1
(screams)

Their attacker was Phantom Ganon, a
supernatural manifestation which
existed between this dimension and
the next.

Guard #1’s bones are crushed by Phantom Ganon. Guard #2
attempts to run away, but Phantom Ganon sweeps him up and
crushes him as well. The two lifeless bodies fall to the
ground.

PHANTOM GANON
BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!

Ganondorf’s power was growing.
11.
9 INT. ZELDA’S SLEEPING CHAMBERS – MOMENTS LATER 9
Zelda is in her bed, dreaming again.

DREAM SEQUENCE:

Zelda hears the sounds of a battle. Link can be heard from a
distance. He is fighting.

GANONDORF (V.O.)
(eerily)
Blood follows my footsteps…
(distantly)
HA HA HA HA HA!

The fighting continues. The sounds of swords, killing, and
war becomes more intense. After a while, Zelda hears the
sound of torrential rain.

ZELDA
(screams desperately)
LINK!!

Strange voices fill the background. They speak
simultaneously.

VOICE #1 (V.O.)
Death. Blood. Torture.
Castle.

VOICE #2 (V.O.)
End. Die. Forest.
Hyrule.

VOICE #3 (V.O.)
Fate. Sword. Goddess.
Hero.

A very unsettling feeling grows within Zelda. Eventually, all
the sound comes to a sharp climax and immediately halts.

END DREAM SEQUENCE
BACK TO:

10 INT. ZELDA’S SLEEPING CHAMBERS – NIGHT 10
Zelda awakens with a gasp.

ZELDA
LINK!!!

A moment of silence.
12.
ZELDA (CONT’D)
(weeping)
Link

Zelda pants as she reflects on her visions. She sits up in
her bed. The subtle sound of crickets settles her mind. A
slight breeze flows through her window.

GANONDORF
(vile humor)
Oh, I’ll save you, Princess. HA HA
HA HAAAA HAAAAH HAAAAAAAH!

ZELDA
(gasps, shocked)
No… no…

GANONDORF
Are you surprised to see me?

A sound of thunder crackles through the air.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Where is it? The missing piece?!

ZELDA
I… I…

Ganondorf grabs Zelda by the neck. She squirms, grabbing at
his arms trying to free herself.

GANONDORF
WHERE IS IT!?

ZELDA
I…
(pleads)
… don’t … know!!

At that moment, the Triforce of Wisdom sings with an ambient
sound. Ganondorf looks down at Zelda’s hand.

GANONDORF
Ahh… I see, you still have the
Triforce of Wisdom, after all these
years…

His hand also begins to emit an ambient echo. The two Golden
Triangles hum in harmony for a moment, then the sound fades
away.
13.
GANONDORF (CONT’D)
You know the kind of damage I am
capable of, Princess.

Ganondorf shoves Zelda to the ground. Zelda tries to perform
a magic attack, but Ganondorf reflects it back at her. She
cries in pain.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
I can rip you apart and smile as I
scatter your blood across Hyrule. I
can render your mind
unrecognizable. I can shred your
soul to dust. Have you do my evil
bidding. Don’t make me waste my
time here, or, I promise, you and
your people will regret it.

ZELDA
(fearful defiance)
What do you want?

GANONDORF
You and I both sense that the
Triforce of Courage is lost. You
simply must know where it is… Or
where it went?
(pause)
You’ve hidden it, haven’t you?!
(pause)
WHERE’S THE FINAL PIECE!?

Zelda ignores him.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Speechless. How unlike you…
(realization)
You don’t know, do you?
Tell me Princess, where is your
Hero? You’re helpless without him.
You have always been a useless
leader to your people. They blindly
follow an incoherent slab of meat –
and YOU put your faith in
Goddesses… Nonsense! I’ll let you
live, only to see your Goddesses
cry over the destruction of your
world.

ZELDA
Leave my people alone!

Ganondorf kneels down to Zelda’s ear.
14.
GANONDORF
(whisper)
What would your people think if
they knew their Hero was gone?
(normal)
Would they listen to your empty
calls for hope? Ask that of
yourself, Zelda, and try to find
sleep at night. This time you’ll
see the blood that follows my
footsteps! HA HAAAAAAA HA HAA!

With a thunderous flash, Ganondorf disappears. Zelda picks
herself up from the ground, holding back the tears begging to
escape.
Zelda runs out of her chambers calling for help.

ZELDA
Father!

FADE TO BLACK.

FADE IN:

—TRACK 05—
—THE ROYAL MEETING—

11 INT. HYRULE CASTLE SMALL PRIVATE ROOM – THE NEXT DAY 11
Zelda is speaking with her father, the KING OF HYRULE.

KING
My daughter, you shouldn’t be so
quick to find despair…

ZELDA
Father! It was him – Ganondorf – He
was in my chambers – he watched me
as I slept – he must have
influenced my dreams! For how many
nights, I’m uncertain.

A short pause.

KING
We found the bodies of forty-seven
guards outside. If what you’re
saying is the truth–

ZELDA
It’s the truth! I have no reason to
lie.
15.
He wrapped his malicious hands
around my neck and demanded the
final piece of the Triforce, but…

KING
I know, my dear. Fret not. I’ve
called for a meeting with the
Hyrule Council Leaders. Let’s pray
they can give us some insight and
some help.

Multiple footsteps approach. The MESSENGER and a guard
arrive.

MESSENGER
The Kakariko Village Mayor has
arrived, my King. The Council
awaits you now.

KING
Good. Has there been word from the
Kokiri?

MESSENGER
No word, Your Highness. This is all
I know. The Leaders have become
impatient. They request your swift
appearance. If I may share an
opinion, my King

KING
Certainly.

MESSENGER
They seem to have a lot to say.
Your timeless approach of unity may
be difficult…

KING
They’re panicked, I know.
(to Zelda, softly)
Still, I cannot make them wait. My
daughter, you should clear your
mind and try to find some rest.

MESSENGER
Your Highness, if I may, the
Council Leaders are expecting Zelda
to attend as well. I don’t think
now is a time for her absence.

KING
I don’t–
16.
ZELDA
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
But, no one must know that
Ganondorf has returned — not yet.
We shall withhold the name of this
evil for now.

KING
Zelda, what is the meaning of this?

ZELDA
I can’t let our kingdom turn to
fear. I won’t cast a spell of
hopelessness. I can’t tell my
people that Ganondorf has returned
without telling them the Hero of
Time will return to save us.

KING
Won’t he?… Return?

Zelda doesn’t answer.

13 INT. HYRULE COUNCIL MEETING ROOM – CONTINUOUS 13
The Hyrule Council Leaders – PRINCESS RUTO, KING ZORA,
GORLINK, IMPA, the KAKARIKO MAYOR, and NABOORU – are seated
at a long table within a large room. They are in conversation
among themselves.

RUTO
The Hero of Time will return to
save us! Princess Zelda was the one
to send him off. Doesn’t she keep
in contact with him?

GORLINK
Pah-hah! As my father would say,
who needs heroes? Heh, heh.

RUTO
The selfish Hylian child has no
idea, no plan! This castle can
barely guard itself, let alone
offer any support for my people.

NABOORU
Princess Ruto, please, if I may
forward you some advice from the
Gerudo people: have some patience.
17.
RUTO
Nabooru, unlike you, I have a
kingdom to run, one that doesn’t
raise demons who conquer the world.

NABOORU
How dare you? Ganondorf, in no way,
represents the Gerudo people. What
happened long ago was a terrible
tragedy. I’ve worked very hard to
improve the relationship between my
people and greater world

KING ZORA
My daughter, no kingdom is more
important than the other. Our unity
is what makes Hyrule strong.
Please, do what Nabooru says and
calm down.

Zelda, King Hyrule, and the Messenger enter through double
doors. The King takes his spot at the other end of the table
and remains standing.

RUTO
(quietly)
Well it’s about time!

MESSENGER
I present His Majesty, King Daphnes
Nohansen Hyrule, and Her Grace,
Princess Zelda.

The King steps forward slightly. Zelda sits down.

KING
It is my honor to see you all here,
though unfortunate are the
circumstances. Gorlink, King Zora,
Princess Ruto, Nabooru, Impa, and
Mayor of Kakariko; I welcome you
all.
It is clear that there is great
peril stalking our kingdom. We must
decide, here and now, how we’ll
stop it.

Voices begin to stir.

KING (CONT’D)
My daughter has asked to speak with
us openly. I only ask that we
listen to her.
18.
Zelda stands up.

ZELDA
This meeting was called so we all
can set up our first line of
defense. Most importantly, we all
must protect one another in order
to survive.

KING ZORA
Can you name our enemy?

ZELDA
… I have my suspicions, King
Zora, but I cannot name our enemy.

RUTO
The wind carries with it an odd
scent. Only a wind mage like Vaati
could–

NABOORU
No, he was destroyed eons ago. His
spirit rests with the Four Sword.

ZELDA
Vile smoke blankets the
countryside. The only news from
farmers near the forest has been
requests for aid against mysterious
raiders. It’s been confirmed that
the Sacred Forest was burned down.
By whose hand… I — do not know.

IMPA
Without the Kokiri children, our
contact with the Minish Tribe is
severed.

GORLINK
Unforgivable! My father weeps for
the first time in his life over the
loss of the forest children. We
Gorons have a special bond with
them. How–how did we let this
happen?

ZELDA
Evil… has… returned… It’s not
our fault…
19.
RUTO
No, it’s just the way things
happen.

GORLINK
My people believe it to be
Ganondorf.

RUTO
If Ganondorf returns, the Hero of
Time is destined to save us! This
is written in the Book of Mudora.
It says if evil falls upon the
land, a hero shall rise to save it.
We all know this…

ZELDA
We must unite! I have had both a
premonition and an apparition. They
both have confirmed that evil has
once again found a champion. It
seems obvious, doesn’t it, when you
think of the vast amount of damage
in such a short amount of time? Our
woes are on the scale of a disaster
and we have yet to make any
headway.
(pause)
If we don’t recognize that these
disasters are part of a much darker
design, then we might part ways
this moment. Hyrule will fall
unless we unite.

KING
We must ready ourselves for war.

KING ZORA
War? Hmm… The Zora are peaceful.
We don’t like conflict. My Domain
has been turbulent, but we’ve kept
things reasonably under control. My
people are content and we’ll stick
to defending our Domain if we have
to.

ZELDA
We must prepare, we must fight
back! It is our right by the
Goddesses to have freedom, not
fear. None of you at this table
believe me! Our enemy is gaining
power as we speak!
20.
GORLINK
We Gorons have always protected our
territory and we’ve always defended
our people. We’ve kept safe,
done nothing to provoke war or
death upon our brothers. I’m not
sending mine off to die in some…
war! You can’t even tell us the
name of our foe!

A pause.

NABOORU
Are my Gerudo soldiers ready for a
war without a face? I can’t be sure
of that. All I know is that an
eerie wind has fallen upon our
desert. The sun rides low in the
sky. The hours of twilight grow
longer.

IMPA
Wait… what do you mean, ‘the sun
rides low?’

NABOORU
I don’t know… none of us do. The
Gerudo Desert has become unsafe,
even by day. Strange activity has
possessed the Spirit Temple. My
people want to travel back to
Kakariko Village.

IMPA
Your people are scared of their own
land?

NABOORU
Impa, I know you and the other
Sheikah were excommunicated from
your village years ago, but on
behalf of the Gerudo Tribe, please
accept our plea. We are not safe in
the desert.

IMPA
That is for the people of Kakariko
to decide. However, you have my
blessings.

GORLINK
Nabooru, I will speak with my
brothers.
21.
If Kakariko Village doesn’t
accommodate you, I’m sure we Gorons
can.

ZELDA
Yes, I see hope. I see that we have
the strength to fight our enemy!

RUTO
What, another dream I presume?
Vision perhaps? Tell me Princess,
why again isn’t the Hero of Time
sitting with us now? Did he get fed
up of being told what he’s supposed
to be doing, or did you drive him
off yourself? It’s always been bit
of a mystery to me.

ZELDA
I…

GORLINK
If we must, we will defend
ourselves! Even if the Ganondorf
has returned!

ZELDA
Ganondorf has not returned.

RUTO
(to Gorlink)
How dare you denigrate the Hero
like that? Your people would have
starved without him! Your babies
would have been fed to a Lava
Dragon! You Gorons are too quick to
forget your past.

ZELDA
Ruto!

GORLINK
I’d rather be made of rocks than be
wet behind the ears!!

RUTO
Hmpf!

GORLINK
Where was your invincible Hero when
the forest, his own home, was
burned to the ground?
22.
GORLINK (CONT’D)
After Ganondorf was destroyed, he
up and left! WHERE DID HE GO?

ZELDA
Stop squabbling like children.

RUTO
Children? You’re the one holding us
to a dream!

IMPA
The Princess sees more in one dream
than most of you do in a lifetime.

RUTO
How dare you! I do not have to hear
this from a glorified nanny!

IMPA
I speak here as the founder of
Kakariko Village and last surviving
member of the Shiekah tribe. It
would do you a service to recognize
my other roles, Zora.

KING
ENOUGH!! Impa, stand down. Ruto,
please remain focused.
(sighs)
Mayor? We have yet to hear from
you. What is Kakariko’s role in
this?

MAYOR
We ah… If there’s ah… If it’s
going to be war… Kakariko will
proudly fight for you, King.

RUTO
Oh, delightful. The sycophants have
spoken.

MAYOR
We have always stood by the Royal
Family, even uh… in this time of
crisis. I uh… do believe our role
would be best served as a haven for
the Gerudos and the wounded. Yes.
But I must first discuss this
matter with the Kakariko Villagers.

KING
Thank you, Mayor.
23.
RUTO
Constantly pleasing the Royal
Family just so your village can
survive.

Impa growls.

GORLINK
This is pointless! We Gorons shall
survive as we always have, by the
strength granted to us by Din
herself!

RUTO
Except when you needed a young boy
to save you.

GORLINK
Link is — my Brother. I respect
him as much as any other Goron. We
never demanded marriage from him.

Zelda plants her head into her hands.

ZELDA
(disbelief, shame)
Oh, Nayru

GORLINK
I’m rolling out of here.

Gorlink exits.

RUTO
Let us be gone, Father.

ZELDA
Gorlink, Ruto, don’t go! We
must stand together!

KING ZORA
(to Ruto)

Yes, my dear.

The Zora Leaders take leave.

KING
Selfishness is a formidable foe.

ZELDA
So is fear. This meeting was a
disaster.

MAYOR
Don’t worry! We are forever bound
to the Royal Family, Daphnes. Y-you
can count on Kakariko! Yes!
24.
NABOORU
Same with the Gerudos. We’ll begin
to travel to the main lands in the
next few days.

The door breaks open. A KNIGHT pulls a ranch worker into the room.

KNIGHT
Your Royal Highness, I found this
man standing outside the window.
He was eavesdropping!

KING
Thank you, Knight.

Identify yourself.

INGO
(quivering)
The name’s Ingo, I was… just
delivering Lon Lon Milk to the
Royal Tavern as you requested, Your
Honor.

The King inspects him.

KING
Mind your own matters, Ingo. Go
along your own way. Knight, see to it.

The Knight takes Ingo by the arm and directs him outside.

KINGHT
C’mon! This way!

INGO
Oww! Alright! I’m going!

—UNTIMELY CONFESSIONS—

14 INT. ROYAL FAMILY LIVING QUARTERS – LATER 14
Zelda and the King discuss matters.

ZELDA
I see my mistake now, Father. I
should have told them the truth…
I wanted to keep them calm and away
from fear. Clearly the Hyrulean
people must know what’s happening.
25.
ZELDA (CONT.)
We cannot keep them ignorant any
longer. I can sense the rising
danger. It’s unlike anything I’ve
felt before. If we don’t act now to
protect our kingdom

KING
My young, beautiful Princess, your
wisdom gives you great
responsibility. The words you say
are noble… Tomorrow, we shall
correct this. We’ll meet with our
people and any others that shall
bear an open ear.

ZELDA
If the Leaders won’t listen to us,
maybe the commoners will. Father,
should we tell them about today’s
events with the Council Leaders?

The King thinks for a moment.

KING
Yes. They must know everything.

15 EXT. HYRULE CASTLE FRONT – THE NEXT DAY 15
Zelda and the King have arranged a public meeting with the
people of Hyrule. The audience consists mostly of Hylians,
but a few Zoras and Gorons are sprinkled throughout the
crowd. They wait and listen.

KING
Noble denizens of Hyrule, I welcome
you and thank you for your arrival
on such short notice. We’re sorry
to interrupt your daily lives, but
we must share important information
with each of you. Please be patient
with us and understand the
situation at hand.
I now give you my daughter, your
Princess Zelda!

The crowd makes all sorts of random noise. Some approve,
others unsure. The crowd is mumbles in suspicion for a moment
as Zelda takes the stand.
The crowd slowly grows silent.
26.
ZELDA
I have foreseen a terrible flash of
events in the past few days. Evil
has begun a vile journey. I trust
you have all heard about the
destruction of Kokiri Forest, which
has resulted in hundreds of lost
lives. And murders and raids have
continued to devastate our great
land.
Yesterday, the King and I met with
the Hyrule Council to discuss this
matter and decide which actions we
should take to protect ourselves.
Our efforts, however, were in vain.
I regret to inform you that our
brother and sister tribes do not
wish to rally their warriors, for
they deny this danger. As they live
in their secluded territories
across Hyrule, they remain blind to
this evil plague!

Zelda pauses for a moment. She tries to prevent herself from
displaying emotion. The crowd begins to speak and ask
questions.

CROWD MEMBER #1
Is that it?!

ZELDA
What I am about to say is the
truth; believe me when I say, the
one behind these attacks is…

Zelda hesitates.

KING
(whispers to Zelda)
Zelda, tell them.

ZELDA
The Evil King of Thieves:
Ganondorf.

Commotion erupts from the crowd. People shout and scream in
anger and denial.

CROWD MEMBER #1
It’s not possible. It can’t be!

ZELDA
The seals placed upon the Evil
Realm have failed.
27.
ZELDA (CONT.)
Ganondorf has returned. We must
gain the trust of one another and
unite.

CROWD MEMBER #2
If the Council Leaders don’t
believe you, why should we?

ZELDA
Please! If we don’t stand together,
we shall surely fall apart! People,
we must not wage war against each
other–

CROWD MEMBER #3
Where is the evidence that
Ganondorf has returned? What proof
do you have?

ZELDA
A vision.

Chaos erupts within the crowd. Yells and screams burst out in
great anger.

CROWD MEMBER #4
We’re tired of your visions. If you
know what’s going to happen, why
don’t the other Sages help you?

ZELDA
I do not wish for war. I do not
wish for–

The King comes to Zelda’s side.

KING
(to Zelda, softly)
My daughter, let me take it from
here. The people are scared. They
don’t want to believe they can be
subject to such horrors again. Let
me speak to them; you’ve had a long
day. Go rest now…

ZELDA
No, Father. Give me more time; they
must believe me. I only need more
time.

KING
Enough, Zelda. I‘ll comfort the
people now. Go. Rest.
28.
The King removes Zelda from her podium. Zelda walks away
toward her chambers, but soon runs back to the podium and
screams as loud as she can to the Hylian people–

ZELDA
(desperate scream)
The Hero of Time will return! I
foresee it. He will save us. By
Goddesses, let’s give him a Kingdom
worth saving! I demand it!

Almost instantly, the crowd becomes somewhat cheerful, but
mostly uncertain as to what Zelda’s announcement meant.

KING
(to Zelda)
What are you doing?!

Zelda runs off toward the Temple of Time, in tears.

KING (CONT’D)
ZELDA!…

The King quickly takes over the podium.

KING (CONT’D)
ENOUGH!! In the name of the Great
Goddesses, I will have order before
my Castle!

The commotion quickly dies down.

KING (CONT’D)
As your leaders, we only wish for
this land to see peace. You, my
brothers, my sisters, my daughters,
my sons — YOU are my family. I
would not lie to you, nor would my
daughter…

16 INT. TEMPLE OF TIME – MOMENTS LATER 16
Zelda steps into the Temple of Time. She walks past the Three
Spiritual Stones and manages to hold her composure until she
reaches the Pedestal of Time, where the mighty Master Sword
sleeps. She collapses and begins to cry.

ZELDA
Forgive me, Goddesses of Hyrule!
There was no other way… I have
betrayed my duty and deceived my
people. I only wanted to offer them
hope!
29.
ZELDA (CONT.)
It’s only a matter of time before
they find out… I had no visions
of the Hero of Time returning…
What I’ve done is beyond sympathy
or pity. My Great Goddesses, I pray
to thee; please save my people. I
pray for your guidance. I put my
faith in you to save the land of
Hyrule. It is beyond my power
now…

Zelda stands up and regains her composure. She turns around
and walks out of the Temple.

16.5 INT. SPIRIT TEMPLE – LATER 16.5
Hundreds of Gerudo soldiers are tied up, gagged,
and lined against a wall. Ganondorf walks back and forth,
staring them down.

Seemingly ignored by the rest of
the kingdom, the Gerudos had begun
the long journey across the dustridden
desert. One by one, the
bands of females were attacked by
Moblins and brought into the Spirit
Temple. Ganondorf had taken refuge
inside. He had hoped that its power
could be drawn forth to summon his
followers from the Underworld.
Hundreds of Gerudo soldiers were
tied up and placed against a wall
within the Temple. Their silence
was a testament to their fear.
Ganondorf’s dark designs seeped
into their minds. He knelt down
next to each of them, one by one,
and asked them as single question.

Ganondorf kneels down to GERUDO #1.

GANONDORF
Tell me, woman, who is your leader?

GERDUO #1
(hesitant)
Na–Nabooru.

GANONDORF
Nabooru… pfft! She has done
nothing for you!
30.
GANONDORF (CONT.)
After all this time, the Hyruleans
still scoff at your presence. And
you tuck yourselves away in this
corner of the desert… How
pathetic…

Ganondorf snaps Gerudo #1’s neck.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
You all live in this kingdom, yet
you aren’t seen as true
Hyruleans

Ganondorf walks in front of GERDUO #2 and kneels.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Look at me. Who is your leader?

GERUDO #2
You, my Lord.

Ganondorf kills Gerudo #2 with a kick.

GANONDORF
Bah! She answered out of fear, not
conviction. A leader must feel the
loyalty of his people… Sure, I
could place you all under my spell
and you would follow me without
question – like the Hyrulean people
follow their Goddesses. I want to
feel your loyalty to me.

Ganondorf kneels down to a third Gerudo soldier. She doesn’t
flinch.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Now, my pretty Gerudo soldier, who
is your leader?

ALL GERUDOS
Ganondorf — the King of Hyrule —
is our leader!

GANONDORF
Ooo! Ha ha! I like how that sounds!
Now, my warriors, rise and follow
in my wake. I shall take you to
your destiny! Together, we shall
seal Hyrule’s fate!

—A KINGDOM DIVIDED—

17 INT. GORON CITY CEREMONIAL HALL – DAY 17
All the Gorons of Death Mountain have gathered in the main
hall. Small chatter from the crowd fills the cavern. Other
Gorons roll into the crowd to join the event.

GORON #1
Big Brother walked out on the
Hyrulean King?

GORON #2
The King or Princess must have said
something that Big Brother
disliked.

GORON #1
It would take a lot to make him
angry like that.

The chatter lessens, replaced by cheers for, “Big Brother!
and “Darunia!” heard in unison. DARUNIA, the Goron Elder,
and Gorlink, his son, step before the crowd.

DARUNIA
My brothers, it saddens me to say,
but we’re on our own. I’ve ordered
all Gorons to return to the
mountains. It seems our Hylian
allies refuse to cooperate with us.
My son tells me that our Brother
Zelda lied to him at the Council
Meeting. We know Ganondorf has
returned and the Princess denied
this… But, she told her people
moments ago that Ganondorf has
returned… along with the Hero of
Time.

GORON 3
Is that true?

GORON 2
No honor!

DARUNIA
The Evil King has killed most, if
not all of our forest brothers. Any
surviving Kokiri are in hiding now.

GORON 1
What happened to the ancient
protection of the forest?
32.
DARUNIA
The protection breaks when the
heart of the forest is pierced.
Somehow, the Forest Sage was killed
from within, allowing Ganondorf’s
army to enter.

A loud chatter and cries of “impossible.”

DARUNIA (CONT’D)
My brothers! We must take measures
to protect ourselves.

GORON #2
What about the Zoras and Hylians?

DARUNIA
We have no allies as of now. The
Royal Family and the Zoras are
clinging to the hope that our Sworn
Brother will return, but
we can’t wait for him. We can’t
rely on Zelda’s word. We must act
now!

18 INT. ZORA’S DOMAIN CONFERENCE ROOM – CONTIGUOUS 18
Ruto and King Zora stand in the Conference Room, next to
their ADVISOR. The roar of a distant waterfall completes the humid air as
Zoras fill the room. The Advisor has just returned from Hyrule Castle Town.

ADVISOR
(out of breath)
Princess Ruto, I have just returned
from Zelda’s speech. Indeed,
Ganondorf has returned.
I also heard the Gorons have
returned to the mountains to take
up arms, should we not do the same?

RUTO
Our people have nothing to worry
about. The Hylians must work out
what fate they’ve brought upon
themselves…

KING
Our people will return to the
Domain and stay here until further
command.
33.
RUTO
Even if Ganondorf has returned,
we’ll not leave our waters until
necessary. Concealment is better
than being a target like those rockbrains.
I really don’t think we
have to worry about Ganondorf
When Link returns, he’ll come here
because of his promise to me!

KING ZORA
I think your perceptions are
excellent, my dear.

RUTO
Thank you! Now let us rest, we’ll
prepare our people and soldiers
later tonight.

19 INT. CASTLE TOWN BAZAAR – NIGHT 19

The races of Hyrule were at odds
with each other, but not more so
than the Hylians themselves. They
were in a state of distrust, unsure
of whether or not to believe their
Princess of Destiny — or one
another. A small band of Hylians
felt the need to congregate at a
local Bazaar in Castle Town.

There is a knock on the door. It opens and closes quickly.
People shuffle inside. More knocks are heard on the door and
more people are let in. This is repeated numerous times along
with a greeting by the OWNER. Small chatter fills the
background while HYLIAN #1 also greets and instructs the
crowd.

OWNER
Welcome, find a place to sit.
We have vital information for
you.
Drinks are on the house.

HYLIAN #1
We can’t trust the Royal
Family.
We’re being lied to.
Evil has returned!

The Bazaar Owner walks up to Hylian #1.

OWNER
That should be everyone, lock the
doors.
34.
HYLIAN #2 and HYLIAN #3 approach the Owner

HYLIAN #2
That was the last guard for a
while. As long as we’re quiet, we
shouldn’t be heard.

HYLIAN #3
The Princess holds onto her hope
that the Hero of Time will return.
I say she’s lying. She doesn’t want
to fight, period.

OWNER
We might as well do something to
protect ourselves.

HYLIAN #3
There’s enough of us to make our
own army.

HYLIAN #2
If even a whisper about this lets
loose, there would be a curfew and
no one would be allowed out at
night.

HYLIAN #3
We have to find a place where we
can defend ourselves, away from the
castle.

Ingo slams his mug of Lon Lon Milk onto the counter. Everyone
turns to face him.

INGO
I know the perfect place!

HYLIAN #1
I know most of the people in Castle
Town and you aren’t one of them!
Who are you?

INGO
I apologize for the lack of an
introduction. My name is Ingo. I
deliver milk regularly to the Royal
Family. A few days ago, I was
making a delivery to the Tavern
when a secret Council Meeting was
called. I overheard everything that
went on. I agree – we must do
something to protect ourselves.
35.
INGO (CONT.)
Zelda told the leaders that
Ganondorf had not returned, yet in
the same breath she told us that he
had. Strange, don’t you think? She
either lied to them, or lied to us.
The King was even telling them to
prepare for a war. Suspicious. Yes.
It sounded to me like the Zoras and
the Gorons have fled to their own
territories out of anger and
distrust.

Crowd chatter ensues.

HYLIAN #2
If we know the Gorons at all,
they’re violent when they’re angry.
They could be preparing for a
war

OWNER
So, Ingo, where is this perfect
place you recommended?

INGO
It’s on top of a nice hill with
rock formations and any other
barriers you can think of. Not too
far from here. Lots of horses for a
last-minute escape. All in all,
it’s a safe place to be.

Ingo takes a swig out of his mug and finishes the last of his
milk.

HYLIAN #3
Well, I’ll be– That sounds
perfect!

HYLIAN #1
Won’t the Ranch owners resist us
from taking refuge there?

INGO
There’s only ever the three of us
there.
(disgusted)
And one’s usually asleep…

HYLIAN #2
Then it’s settled. We have our
fort.
36.
The people within the shop start to cheer, but they’re
interrupted by a sharp yell from the Owner.

OWNER
Quiet down! Do you want us to get
caught? We move out tomorrow. Tell
your friends and family. All the
people wanting to take a stand must
meet us, just as the drawbridge
lowers at sunrise.

The people agree with the Owner.

OWNER (CONT’D)
All right, time to leave.
The Bazaar entrance door opens and closes as people exit.

When it is silent, the Owner begins to clean his shop.

OWNER (CONT’D)
(to himself)
Forgive us Princess, you’ve left us
with no better choice.

20 INT. ZELDA’S SLEEPING CHAMBERS – LATER 20
The ‘Legend’ music plays from “Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.”
Zelda is dreaming.

DREAM SEQUENCE:
The Golden Goddesses, DIN, NAYRU, and FARORE appear.

DIN
Zelda, Princess of Hyrule, we
Goddesses come to you.

NAYRU
Hyrule is in peril, as you slumber.

FARORE
We will save your world and your
children.

DIN
But your kingdom will not survive.

NAYRU
The Blade of Evil’s Bane.

FARORE
Use it upon Ganon and return it to
your King.
37.
DIN, NAYRU, & FARORE
Do you understand what you must do?

A moment passes before Zelda responds.

ZELDA
Yes.

END DREAM SEQUENCE

—DAWN OF WAR—

21 EXT. LON LON RANCH – MORNING 21
The ambient sounds of a peaceful morning fill the background.

As the sun rose and painted the sky
with bands of pink, a group of
thirty Hylians made their way
across Hyrule Field, with Ingo
leading the way.
Together, they entered Lon Lon
Ranch and in less than an hour,
they transformed the once peaceful
farm into a fortress prepared for
war.

MALON, the Ranch owner’s daughter, struggles to free herself
as people march around her.

MALON
Let me GO! What are you doing?!

HYLIAN #1
Shut up, girl.

MALON
My name is Malon and this is my
home! It belongs to me and my
father! You can’t come in here and
just take over! LET ME GO!

A sword is drawn. Malon swallows her words.

HYLIAN #2
The Gorons and Zoras are turning
against us.
38.
HYLIAN #2 (CONT.)
The Royal Family is just sitting
and waiting. We have a right to
protect ourselves.

HYLIAN #1
Only the castle itself is better
defended than this fort. We’re
taking this ranch to defend Hyrule.

MALON
No, you’re stealing it!

Malon suddenly sees Ingo.

MALON (CONT’D)
… Ingo?! Why are you with them?

HYLIAN #3
He’s loyal, like us.

INGO
Just do what they tell you, Malon,
and you won’t-–

MALON
You let them in! You traitor! I
knew my father should have never
hired you.

Hylian #1 slaps Malon. She lets out a whimper.

HYLIAN #1
I told you to shut up, pretty one.
We’re the royalty here.
(to Hylian #2)
Lock her up!

HYLIAN #2
Come with me, pretty.

Hylian #2 grabs a hold of Malon. She struggles for freedom
and screams for her father, TALON.

MALON
DADDY! Help!!!

Half asleep, Talon is forcefully dragged out of a barn.

TALON
Wha–What’s goin’ on around…
Malon? MALON!! Don’t you touch my
little girl, you filthy thieves!
39.

Talon fights to reach his daughter but he is unable. Talon is
clubbed on the back of the head with an empty bottle. Talon
falls to the ground, unconscious.

MALON
DADDY!

HYLIAN #1
(to Talon)
I swear by Farore, next time you
call us thieves, I’ll cut your
throat.
Ingo, will you find someplace to
put these two?

INGO
Y-yes, sir.

Ingo runs off with Malon and Talon. Quiet, disturbing music
beings to play – a twisted or inverted Lon Lon theme.

22 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – MOMENTS LATER 22
Gorons amass outside Kakariko Village and begin crossing a
small bridge with a stone-on-stone sound.

GORLINK
Stay in formation, Brothers!
Remember, we do not wish to begin a
battle, but by Goddesses if it
happens, we shall end it!

GORON #1
Big Brother, is this necessary? I
didn’t like the stares we received
from the Kakariko villagers. They
let us pass, they had little
choice, but perhaps we’re
overreacting.

DARUNIA
Nonsense, my brother. This is about
showing the rest of Hyrule our
strength. Kakariko Village has seen
it and now Castle Town shall be
next. Let them see our unity. We
need no hero to save Hyrule, all we
need is our Brotherhood.

GORON #1
But Elder Brother, you named your
own son after him.
40.
DARUNIA
Link has not – The Hero will not
return. By ourselves, we must face whatever
dangers threaten our land.

GORON #1
(slightly dubious)
Yes, Elder Brother.

23 EXT. ZORA RIVER – CONTIGUOUS 23
The Zoras stand just outside their Domain, looking at the
Gorons marching across the field.

RUTO
Pfft. Look at those rock heads
marching into the field. They dare
not enter our river. As long as
we’re within these waters, we are
supreme. And from these waters, we
shall defend our Domain from
anything that threatens it.

ZORA #3
(to himself)
And then what? Wait for a hero that
vanished decades ago?…

RUTO
The Hero will return. That’s one
matter on which Zelda and I agree.
(soft, wistful)
He made a promise… on my mother’s
Stone, he made a promise.
I know him. He would move heaven
and earth to keep his word. He will
return. He has to…

24 EXT. HYRULE CASTLE TOWER- CONTINUOUS 24
Wind whistles around the castle tower as Zelda peers over
Hyrule Field.

IMPA
They’re mad! They’re all mad! The
Gorons are rolling powder kegs into
Hyrule Field, and those madmen
who’ve taken Lon Lon Ranch are
preparing to throw lit matches at
them! What’s happened to this
Kingdom?
41.
ZELDA
This is all my fault.

IMPA
Princess, that’s absurd.

ZELDA
I sent him away.

IMPA
It was what had to be done, sending
Link to the past.

ZELDA
Then why hasn’t he returned? Why
can’t I feel him? It’s as if he
doesn’t exist anymore. I’ve felt
this absence, this imbalance the
moment I sent him back. If I did
send our Hero into another
dimension, I’ll have handed Hyrule
to Ganondorf.

IMPA
You mustn’t blame yourself,
Princess. In fact, let’s observe
this from inside the castle, my
Princess.

ZELDA
Has anything been done to rescue
the ranchers?

IMPA
(annoyed)
Your father continues to advise
patience, My Lady. But–

ZELDA
You disagree?

IMPA
There’s a time and place for
patience. Our current crisis comes
from an overabundance of rash
impulse. All the same, we must now
act to douse the flames, or be
consumed by them.

The music becomes more intense.

ZELDA
I can’t defy my father’s will.
42.
ZELDA (CONT.)
Now of all times. Not when everyone
else dares to put themselves before
the Kingdom.

IMPA
But?

ZELDA
But… Malon is my friend. I don’t
have many of those left… … …
I want you to get the ranchers out
of Lon Lon. Bring them back here —
no wait… even the castle isn’t
safe.

IMPA
I’ll send my agents.

ZELDA
No…

Zelda passes through a realization.

ZELDA (CONT’D)
(distant, dreamy)
Every living being you can. The
mountains. Yes. Get them to the
mountains. Anyone and everyone you
can.
(normal)
Impa, we must keep this between us.
No one else can know.

IMPA
I’m not certain what you mean
exactly… But my agents are
faithful. Loyal. They would not speak a
word.

ZELDA
Please, Impa, I trust only you to
rescue Malon and Talon from the
ranch. Have your agents take care
of the others.

IMPA
My Lady

ZELDA
Don’t fret. The castle wards have
been doubled and redoubled. I’ve
cast magic barriers at the
entrance. Even Ganondorf cannot
simply enter now. I’ll be safe.
43.
Impa hesitates.

ZELDA (CONT’D)
I don’t want to give you an order,
Impa.

IMPA
(snorts)
Nor could you. His Majesty
personally charged me with your
safety.

ZELDA
I’m a grown woman for Goddess
sake…

Impa and Zelda look at one another for a moment. Impa reads
Zelda.

IMPA
It means that much to you?

ZELDA
Yes.

IMPA
You will remain inside until I
return. Agreed?

ZELDA
Of course. Thank you!

IMPA
Hrmmmf. Don’t thank me until after
we’re past the rough side of your
father’s tongue.

Impa disappears with an air-shattering ‘BAMF,’ a sound unique
to the art of Sheikah teleportation.

SFX – SHEIKAH TELEPORT ‘BAMF’

Zelda hears a knocking at the tower door.

ZELDA
Yes?

MESSENGER
Sorry to disturb you, my lady, but
there are some… Kokiri children

The Kokiri Forest theme plays with hopeful excitement.
44.
MESSENGER (CONT’D)
–with a potted plant, to see
you…

ZELDA
IMPOSSIBLE!! They must have brought
the Deku Tree Sprout! Take me to
them!

25 INT. GERUDO VALLEY VOLCANIC CHASM – EVENING 25
Moblins chant Ganondorf’s name until he shows himself.

Ganondorf and his minions had
congregated in a volcanic chasm
deep within Gerudo Valley. Pillars
of lava exploded around the evil
army, only to heighten the sense of
unity they felt.

Ganondorf stands atop a single pillar peering over the chasm.
His voice bellows through the lava-filled canyon.

GANONDORF
My followers! As we speak, the
Hyruleans are at odds with each
other. They have no idea that we’ve
taken back the desert!

His army cheers.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
For far too long, we have allowed
the weak and foolish to keep us at great
bay, but no more!

More cheering.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Soon we shall march across the
lands of those pathetic people and
attack them when they’re most
vulnerable. And to help us, I have
used my magic to resurrect two of
my most unquestionably loyal
followers…

KOUME, the powerful Fire Witch, emerges from the lava below,
and rises to her surrogate son’s side.
45.
KOUME
Eeee heeeee heeee! I am Koume,
Sorceress of all that burns. The
blazing heat of the underworld has
returned to me the power of flame!
Eeeeee heeeee heeeee heeeee!

Koume shoots billowing pillars of fire from the tip of her
wand as she laughs mercilessly. Suddenly, the air within the
chasm grows cold. A freezing wind blows and atop the chasm a
twister forms. KOTAKE, the Ice Witch, exits from the clouds
above. She joins her sister’s side and they cackle together.

KOTAKE
My oh my, it’s been a long time,
sis! But I’ve returned from the
heavens above, with nothing less
than my kiss! I have claimed from
the numbing desert night: the power
of frost!

Kotake and Koume cackle, but soon turn to Ganondorf, who
continues his speech.

GANONDORF
We’ve conquered the Gerudo people
and we stand united with a common
vision, while the remaining races
of Hyrule are about to destroy each
other.

More cheering.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Only one Gerudo has seen fit to
defy our destiny… and she has, at
last, been brought low. Behold!

Moblins drag Nabooru forward by chains. She struggles and
whines, but to no avail.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
Ah, Nabooru… You did a fine job
leading the Gerudos during my time
of absence. Unfortunately for you,
your usefulness has come to an end.
So sad too, you would have been my
right hand.

NABOORU
I’d rather cut it off.
46.
KOTAKE
Oh, she’s a feisty one, isn’t she
Koume? It would be such fun to bend
her will to the Great King’s!

Nabooru struggles against the chains.

NABOORU
There is no greatness in being
evil!

GANONDORF
Evil? Heh. Evil is what the weak
call strong. Evil is what the
cowardly call the fearless. That is
evil, my dear, and I am proud to be
its King!

Nabooru spits at Ganondorf.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
You will serve, one way… or the
other.
(to Kotake and Koume)
Break her.

Kotake and Koume unite their wands and release a blast of
high energy toward Nabooru. Her screams fill the chasm. No
cheering this time. Dark, pathetic, sad music begins to play
as Nabooru’s screams fade behind evil laughter.

GANONDORF (CONT’D)
(to Nabooru)
We shall return our kingdom to its
former, united glory!

FADE TO BLACK.

—TRACK 09—
—THE GREAT HYRULEAN WAR—

26 INT. LON LON RANCH BARN – MORNING 26

Fear settled across Hyrule like a
fog. It obscured sense and reason.
Old friendships withered; while
hatred thrived. The dawn of a new
day began. Malon was tied up inside
a barn next to her sleeping father.
She reflected on her past.
47.
Introductory music fades into something Lon Lon-esque.

MALON
(to herself)
I don’t believe it… Ingo… How
could he? How dare he?

Cuccos trot around the wooden barn floor, clucking as
Talon sleeps a few feet away from a melancholy Malon.

TALON
(sleep talk)
Malon… proud o’ ya… Remind
me… your mother…

MALON
I love you too, Daddy, but I don’t
see any way out of this. I wish…
… … Hmm, I haven’t thought of
that fairy boy in years. I know he
could do something if he were
here…

SFX – SHEIKAH TELEPORT ‘BAMF’

Impa appears. A few horses inside the barn become panicked
momentarily.

MALON (CONT’D)
Wh – who’s there? I’m warning you–

IMPA
For Nayru’s Love lower your
voice, child.

MALON
I-Impa? … Thank the Goddesses!

IMPA
Wake your father, Malon. We’re
leaving.

Malon rushes to her horses.

MALON
Not without the horses.

IMPA
(grumbles)

MALON
I can’t just leave them here, Miss
Sheikah.
48.
MALON (CONT.)
Besides, Daddy’s nigh-impossible to
wake up without a cucco louder than
– um, what are you doing?

Impa chuckles while she grabs Talon. His howls are muffled by
her hand.

IMPA
Sshhh.

TALON
(mumbles)
Needle in the backside… That’s no
way to wake a sleepin’ man…

IMPA
The Princess has requested me to get you
both to the mountains.

MALON
The mountains? Why? Isn’t the
castle–? Zelda’s in trouble, isn’t
she? I must help!

IMPA
You’re a brave young lady, but I
fear that my skills may not be
enough to save you, if we
should be caught. You can serve
Hyrule best by heeding her wisdom.

They hear a round of arrows flying in the distance.

IMPA (CONT’D)
Oh Farore!

We hear Goron voices from outside, muffled by the walls.

GORON #1
(muffled)
HA HA HA! Is that the best you can
do?

GORON #2
(muffled)
Arrows? Against stone? Bwahahaha!
Maybe they’ll try slingshots next.
49.
27 EXT. LON LON RANCH – CONTINUOUS 27
The battle breaks loose within the ranch as the Gorons make
their way past the barrier.

HYLIAN #2
We’ll do worse if you don’t leave
our land now!

DARUNIA
Arrogant Hylian! This land is as
much ours! Harm my brothers again
and your head will drop to my feet.

HYLIAN #1
So that’s how he wants it? Fine.
Pull out the mice!

HYLIAN #3
Mice? Wha… ohhh.
(sadistic chuckle)
Those mice. Right.

Hylian #3 pulls out a bombchu from within a bag. He lights it
and the wick hisses. He places it on the ground and the
bombchu races off.

28 INT. LON LONG RANCH BARN – CONTINUOUS 28
Malon, Talon, and Impa listen quietly to the events unfolding
outside the barn.

MALON
They wouldn’t actually–

IMPA
Never underestimate the power of
hubris.

The bombchu explodes. One of the barn walls is obliterated.
Smoke fills the air. Everyone coughs; the cucco goes wild and crows for help.

IMPA (CONT’D)
The war’s begun. It’s time we left.

DARUNIA
SO BE IT! GORONS, ATTACK!

HYLIAN #1
Fire at will!

HYLIAN #3
Din’s Fire!

IMPA
Malon, Talon, take my hands.
50.
MALON
But–

IMPA
Trust me. We don’t have much time.

MALON
Okay…

There is a distorted flash and a twisted ‘BAMF.’

SFX – FAILED SHEIKAH TELEPORT

Something has gone wrong. Impa falls to the ground.

MALON (CONT’D)
Impa! Are you okay?

IMPA
Yes, child.

TALON
Why uh… what happened?

MALON
Impa, why didn’t we teleport?

IMPA
I don’t know, there must be some
magic barrier keeping us inside.
We’ll have to escape another
way.

Impa stands. She points at the horses in the barn.
A flock of cuccos are flying angrily toward them.

IMPA (CONT’D)
(to Malon)
Are you choosing a name?!
Get on a horse!

29 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – CONTINUOUS – DAY 29
We hear the battle sounds at Lon Lon Ranch in the distance.
The music plays at full volume.

RUTO
Great Nayru! The Hylians have gone
mad!

ZORA #1
Your Highness? What do we do now?
51.
RUTO
Zoras, emerge with grace! Form together and
join the Gorons!

ZORA #1
(relieved)
Aye, ma’am!

BACK TO:
30 EXT. LON LON RANCH 30

GORON #1
Watch out Brothers! Zoras are
approaching us from the river!

DARUNIA
Treachery! Roll them down!

The Gorons roll into the Zoras. Some of them are toppled
over. Other Zoras use their scales as boomerangs to fend off
their attackers.

ZORA #2
Princess! We’re — AAIEE!

Zora #2 is crushed by a rolling Goron.

RUTO
NO! Darunia, you idiot, we’re here
to help. — Zoras, defend
yourselves!

GANONDORF
(distant)
HA HAAA HAA HA HAAAAAA!

The giant flock of Cuccos merge with the fighting and we hear Ganondorf’s laughter in the
distance. No one seems to notice due to the intense battle.
Music and war intermingle.

31 EXT. GERUDO VALLEY ENTRANCE – CONTINUOUS 31
Ganondorf stands tall, peering across Hyrule Field. He
absorbs the chaos unfolding before his eyes.

KOTAKE
Now, Master?

KOUME
What a perfect time!!
52.
GANONDORF
Let them devastate one another for
a while longer.

32 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – CONTINUOUS 32
The music grows more prominent. The fighting rises in
volume. A Zora strikes a Goron, but with no success. The Zora
is toppled over by the pure might of the Gorons.

33 INT. LON LON RANCH BARN – CONTINUOUS 33
Malon, Impa, and Talon wait patiently on horses. They
ponder desperately for a way to escape the madness.

MALON
How’re we gonna get out of here?

Suddenly, an enormous explosion breaks the tension. The
Gorons have brought down Lon Lon’s walls.

MALON (CONT’D)
The Gorons have taken down the
walls surrounding the ranch!!

IMPA
NOW IS OUR TIME! Ride! Ride for
your lives!

Malon, Impa, and Talon take off on horseback. The horses
gallop out of the barn, through the missing wall, and into
the thick of the chaos.

34 EXT. LON LON RANCH – CONTINUOUS 34

GORON #1
Elder Brother, look! Hylians
fleeing like cowards!

GORON #2
Should we attack them?

DARUNIA
No, Brother. I know them. They’re
innocent in this – let ‘em go.

A Hylian sneaks up behind Darunia with a sword, but Darunia
turns and attacks him with a crushing punch. The Hylian
screams, but his calls are gargled by his the blood filling
his lungs.
53.
DARUNIA (CONT’D)
These traitors and murderers are
the ones we want!

The Zoras let loose some bombs. They blast away the remaining
walls of Lon Lon, killing nearby Gorons and Hylians. Impa,
Malon, and Talon barely make it through the battle alive.
Their horses gallop away from the melee.

IMPA
Keep forward! Head for the
mountains!

Their horses whinny as they gallop steadily across the bloodsoaked
fields.

35 INT. HYRULE CASTLE ROYAL FAMILY QUARTERS – CONTINUOUS 35
The war continues in the far distance during the following
argument between Zelda and The King.

ZELDA
Father, we must stop this!

KING
I’m sorry, Zelda. Those fighting
each other in our fields have
chosen their fates. We can only
defend those who have remained
loyal to us now.

ZELDA
So we condemn them to death for
fleeting moments of folly and
anger?

KING
(guilt)
They’ve condemned themselves! I do
not wish this any more than you,
but we cannot help them now.

ZELDA
How will we know if we never try?

KING
(hollow finality)
We have tried. We have spoken.

The King walks away, heavily.
54.
ZELDA
(to herself)
Impa, please hurry…

36 EXT. HYRULE CASTLE – CONTINUOUS 36
Just outside the walls of Hyrule Castle; Impa, Malon, and
Talon stop their horses. Impa dismounts.

IMPA
Malon, take your father to the
highest mountain north. You’ll
be safe there.

MALON
But what about you?

IMPA
I’ve seen many battles, more than
the years you’ve been alive, my
young lady.

MALON
But–

IMPA
Go, now!

Impa disappears with a ‘BAMF.’

SFX – SHEIKAH TELEPORT ‘BAMF’

MALON
Come on, Daddy!

TALON
Right behind ya!

They gallop away.

37 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – CONTINUOUS 37
The music rises. Gorons and Zoras continue to kill
one another, savagely.

SFX – SHEIKAH TELEPORT ‘BAMF’

Impa reappears. She walks steadfast into the fray. A Zora
attacks her with a boomerang.
55.
Impa performs a cartwheel and grabs the weapon. She flings it
aside and tosses a deku nut at her attacker. It flashes
brightly and stuns the Zora. He falls to the ground.
A cucco suddenly flies into Impa’s face, momentarily distracting her.

DARUNIA
Fall, you Zora!
ZORA #2
Foolish Goron! We came to help—

Darunia attacks Zora #2. Impa continues toward
Darunia and Ruto. Another Zora spots Impa.
Impa preemptively tosses the rogue cucco at the Zora.
Just then, a Goron spots her and charges. Impa pulls
out her chain whip and flings it through the air. The whip
carves away chunks of the ground as Impa twirls it around. It
whistles as it wraps itself around the Goron’s leg. Impa tugs
on it and the Goron tumbles to the ground. She continues
forward.

DARUNIA
(horrified, soft)
What? Help?!

RUTO
That’s right, Darunia. I saw you
under attack and tried to help you.
Obviously, we both had different
motives in all this. Do you still
believe that Gorons can solve every
problem with their strength and power?

DARUNIA
Do you still believe that a boy
Hero will make everything okay with
a wave of his sword?

Impa throws multiple needles, striking a line of charging Zoras.
They all fall to the ground in pain. Impa finally
steps in between two Council Leaders and everything goes
silent.

IMPA
ENOUGH!
Listen to you! The both of
you know that we’re in the middle of a disaster,
yet you still argue!

A moment passes.

RUTO
(ashamed)
I… You… Speak wisdom, Sheikah.

IMPA
Tell your people to stop killing
each other!
56.
DARUNIA
Hrrm. Indeed. Come, Ruto. Perhaps
we can salvage some courage from
this nightmare. GORONS, HALT! HOLD
YOUR ATTACKS!

RUTO
SEIZE FIRE!

The wind picks up. A thunderous stampede
fills the air. Moblins let out many wild, triumphant
screams. Gerudo warriors ululate with joy.

GANONDORF
Yes, come forth, my great army!

RUTO
WHAT?

DARUNIA
No!

GANONDORF
You have all danced to my tune! What saddens me is that
you didn’t kill each other by now.

The remains of Lon Lon Ranch explode into splinters. Impa and
all the Zoras, Gorons, and Hylians scream as they go flying
through the air.

IMPA
The Ranch!

GANONDORF
My reign has just begun!

Huge fires burn and the marching intensifies with dark, bombastic music.

Ganondorf’s army now stood before Hyrule, at full power.

The mob stops marching. Ganondorf steps out from within the
masses and chuckles to himself.

Ganondorf stepped forward with a
wretched smile. His army stretched across the horizon.
The disturbed
 Hyruleans could only
stare as Ganondorf
beckoned the rest of his army.
57.
Large-scale battle music begins playing.

The Evil King pointed toward the
ground and it began to shake. The
ground split open before him and
out from under the depths, hundreds
of skinless warriors appeared.
First emerged the Stalfos, armed
with swords and shields. Behind
them were Redeads, reanimated walking corpses
brought back to life with dark magic.

Music changes key.

Ganondorf then pointed
where Lon Lon Ranch once stood. The
ground shook as a huge tree trunk
rose from the ground. From within
emerged armored lizards, known as
Lizalfos. They charged onto the
field. Each one emblazoned with a unique set of weapons.

Music changes key.

Ganondorf raised his arms
toward the sky and motioned as if
tugging at the clouds. The sun’s
final few rays were eclipsed by
thousands of bird-like creatures —
the Kargaroks! They dropped
explosives as they swept across the
battle field.

Music changes key.

When the Hyruleans saw
Ganondorf’s army, only one
certainty entered their mind…

Music climaxes and halts. Silence.

The Hero of Time was not returning.

GANONDORF
ATTAAAAAAAAACK!!!

The evil army charges toward the castle.
58.
38 INT. HYRULE CASTLE MAIN ENTRANCE – MOMENTS LATER 38
Zelda stands in front of the castle entrance pleading with
her Advisor.

ADVISOR
But Princess, it’s war out there!
You simply cannot exit these castle
walls. Surely, you will perish.
Please, as your Advisor, as your
friend, reconsider!

ZELDA
I cannot. I’ve been chosen! If Impa
should return, please, tell her I’m
going to the Temple of Time. There
is something I must do.

Zelda runs off; her Advisor is left confused and guilt-stricken.

BACK TO:
39 EXT. HYRULE FIELD 39
Ruto, Impa, and Darunia take down monsters by the dozen.

RUTO
Is there no end to them?

DARUNIA
If not, then we will fight for all
eternity!

KOTAKE
Fools, the both of you!

KOUME
But the greatest fool of all is
your so-called champion of Wisdom.

Kotake and Koume shoot fire and ice at Darunia. He stumbles
backward onto the ground, injured. Ruto rushes to his side.

RUTO
Darunia, you’re hurt! Flee to
safety.

DARUNIA
I’ll not abandon you!
59.
RUTO
Hyrule needs your strength! I’ll
deal with the witch!

DARUNIA
(knowingly)
Ruto, you must not waste your time
with her. I made a mistake. I sent
my son to… Please, go to the
Temple of Time and stop him. Tell
Gorlink — tell him… he must allow
Zelda to fulfill her destiny.

RUTO
But… why? What–

KOTAKE
Don’t you see what’s happened?
Ganondorf has tricked you all. He
divided and conquered your entire
kingdom! Look how easy it was.

DARUNIA
Ruto, I am far too injured and old
to be able to make the journey in
time. You must do this, or Hyrule
will fall. Just do it! I’ll handle
the two witches.

Ruto races toward the Temple of Time.

RUTO
Link, where are you?!

40 INT. TEMPLE OF TIME – MOMENTS LATER 40
Zelda enters the Temple of Time. It is quiet. The ambient hum
of the three spiritual stones echoes within the temple walls.
Zelda continues forward, only to see Gorlink standing in
front of the Door of Time.

GORLINK
(melancholy)
Hello, brother Zelda.

ZELDA
Oh! Gorlink! Why aren’t you with
your tribe?

GORLINK
Because, my Father wanted me to
come here. He didn’t trust the
Hylians.
60.
GORLINK (CONT.)
I wanted to believe otherwise, but
I suppose you’re no different than
the rest of them. No more wisdom
lies within you, Princess Zelda.

ZELDA
Gorlink, please–

GORLINK
You Hylians keep the Triforce for
yourselves; you protect the Sacred
Realm from everyone else. Tell me,
who protects it from you?!
And now, when our land is at its
weakest, you have come to take the
Blade of Evil’s Bane. You threaten
the sanctity of Hyrule. Have you
forgotten the last time the Master
Sword was pulled? Who entitled your
race to take on the duties of this
land?

There is silence.

ZELDA
Gorlink, I need the Master Sword.

GORLINK
The Master Sword must sleep
forever.

ZELDA
I was ordered by the Goddesses to
use it.

GORLINK
I was ordered by my tribe to stop
you.

ZELDA
It saddens me to know that we fight
over the very things that protect
us.

Gorlink steps forward.

GORLINK
You give me no choice. You lied…

ZELDA
I am the one with no choice. The
Hero of Time isn’t returning to
save our land. He left long ago.
61.
ZELDA (CONT’D)
The darkest truth of all is that
the Triforce of Courage is lost
with him. Hyrule has remained
unbalanced since I sent him back to
his time — his world. It is now my
burden to return our land to peace.
There is no hero.

GORLINK
I don’t know you anymore. You lied
to everyone. You said the Hero
would return, yet you knew
otherwise. What reason shall keep
me from stopping you now? You have
done nothing but lie since
Ganondorf returned. Your people
trusted you.

ZELDA
You speak nothing of the truth.

GORLINK
You know nothing about truth,
Brother. Why must you reawaken the
Master Sword?

ZELDA
It is the only relic left that can
save this land.

GORLINK
You want to take it for yourself!
YAAARRRRGGG!

Gorlink lunges forward. Zelda jumps out of the way. Quickly,
Zelda regains her footing and runs toward the Master Sword.
Gorlink grabs her ankle and flings her into a wall.

ZELDA
Please, don’t make me hurt you!

Ruto enters.

RUTO
Gorlink!! Let her — it’s her
destiny. Darunia says let Zelda
fulfill her destiny!

Gorlink turns around to face Ruto.

GORLINK
Huh?!
62.
RUTO
Ganondorf wanted this. He was the
one who wanted us to turn against
each another.

GORLINK
Not true, she lied to us. The Hero
is gone, she said so.

RUTO
(to Zelda)
What? Is that true?

ZELDA
It is true. I could not warn my
people about Ganondorf’s return
without giving them hope! So I told
them that the Hero of Time would
return to save us…

Silence fills the temple.

RUTO
He’s gone forever?

ZELDA
Ruto… His childhood was stolen
from him. I couldn’t live with that-
– I didn’t think I’d be sending him
away. I thought I was trying to
restore order. But I was mistaken.

Ruto sniffles. Zelda steps toward the sword.

ZELDA (CONT’D)
This is the only way…

Zelda quickly steps up to the Pedestal of Time. The Master
Sword fanfare begins to play as Zelda pulls out the legendary
blade. The sound of stone against steel echoes within the room.

ZELDA (CONT’D)
We must return the blade to our
King!

FADE TO BLACK.

FADE IN:

—TRACK 10—
—ZELDA’S DESTINY—
63.
41 INT. HYRULE CASTLE MAIN HALL – NIGHT 41
Music becomes quiet, but holds tension. We hear fighting on
the other side of the stone walls.

MESSENGER
The war is just outside the castle
walls!

ADVISOR
Your Majesty! What are we going to
do?

A powerful hum of energy, mixed with the creaking of wood
fills the inside of the castle. The room begins to rumble.

ADVISOR (CONT’D)
It’s the drawbridge! He’s ripping
at it with his power!

KING
Bolster the wards! I want every
sorcerer, knight, and soldier
fighting him now!

ADVISOR
They are, but–

A massive explosion is heard in the distance.

ADVISOR (CONT’D)
It’s too late! The wards–

Another, more immediate explosion. The evil army invades Hyrule Castle.

ADVISOR (CONT’D)
Your Majesty, let’s go! Please, we
must–

A spear flies through the air and hits the Advisor in the
back. He falls to the ground, dead. The evil mob continues its incoming.

KING
(defeated)
No… … …

Suddenly, the intruders stop in formation. It is silent.
Ganondorf enters.

GANONDORF
(cultured, amused)
Ah, Your Majesty. We meet again, at last.
64.
KING
The pleasure is all yours.

GANONDORF
Surrender to me, Daphnes.
Surrender, and you will live.
Surrender, and your people will
live… your daughter will live.
Surrender… or I promise you will
all beg me for mercy.

KING
The Red Lion is mightier than you,
Dragmire! My death won’t end the
service to my people!

GANONDORF
Really? Let us test that.

Ganondorf swiftly attacks the King. He resists. It’s a
short, ugly fight. It is uncertain at this point if the King
survives or not.

Implacable, unstoppable, the King
of Evil was striding ever closer to
victory in his quest for power.
Those who might oppose him
were seemingly already dead.

42 EXT. TEMPLE OF TIME – CONTINUOUS 42
We hear sounds of war in the distance. The ambience slowly
dwindles as the Hyruleans are slaughtered. Zelda, Ruto, and
Gorlink exit the Temple of Time.

ZELDA
There’s no way we can enter the
castle now! There’s too many of
them surrounding it.

GORLINK
Ruto and I will protect you.
Let’s go!

RUTO
It’s getting quieter — we’re
loosing.

We follow the trio as they walk out onto Hyrule Field.
65.
43 EXT. HYRULE FIELD – CONTINUOUS 43
Suddenly, Zelda overhears…

KOTAKE
Die, Sheikah!

IMPA
You first.

Impa stabs Kotake with her sword. Kotake wails and falls to
the ground with a thud. Impa pants heavily, while Koume
swoops in. Impa rolls forward on the ground and pulls out her metal
whip. She whips Koume upside the head with a metallic crack
and the witch falls to the ground.

ZELDA
Impa!

GORLINK
No, Princess, continue forward! You
must not be distracted!

Zelda continues.

GORLINK (CONT.)
Watch out!

IRON KNUCKLE charges at Zelda with an over-sized axe. Zelda
barely escapes its attacks as it shatters the ground.

IRON KNUCKLE
Well done, Princess, but you cannot
possibly win.

Iron Knuckle picks up the axe and swings again. Zelda
performs a disarming spell. The axe flings through the air.
Iron Knuckle lunges toward Zelda, the Princess performs Din’s
Fire. The fire spell destroys Iron Knuckle’s outer armor and
it falls to the ground. For a moment, time stands still.

ZELDA
N–Nabooru?

NABOORU
(toneless)
Zelda… I had no control… The armor–

ZELDA
It was a spell, I understand.

KOTAKE
Heee heeeee!
66.
Zelda gasps.

KOUME
Take this!

Kotake and Koume both laugh hysterically as they blast
Nabooru once again with their ice and fire magic; she flies backward.

ZELDA
No! … Nabooru!

KOTAKE
You know what time it is Koume?

KOUME
I do, Kotake.

KOTAKE & KOUME
Fire and ice,
Mix them with our last might.
We become one,
Death is your final sight.

Kotake and Koume circle around one another in mid-air. A cloud of magic
dust forms around them and they soon merge into one. They
become TWINROVA – a single witch with fused powers.

TWINROVA
We are the mighty TWINROVA! Heee
heeee heeeeeeeeee!

RUTO
Zelda, let Gorlink and I handle
this! You must go!

ZELDA
Are you sure?

RUTO & GORLINK
GO!

Zelda runs toward Hyrule Castle.

TWINROVA
SEIZE HER!

An Octorock approaches her and launches a
high-speed boulder from its mouth.
Zelda uses Farore’s Wind spell
and dodges the flying rock by teleporting.
Zelda screams when she re-materializes next to a Like-Like. The Octorock crawls
over to her. Zelda slashes both monsters in half
using a spinning attack with the Master Sword.
67.
Meanwhile, Twinrova swoops over Ruto.

TWINROVA (CONT’D)
I’ll take care of you, Zora Princess!

Darunia steps forward and knocks Twinrova clear off her
broom.

DARUNIA
I’d think twice about that if I
were you.

GORLINK
Father!

Darunia and Gorlink pat each others’ backs.

DARUNIA
This is a good hour to die!

GORLINK
Indeed it is!

Twinrova moves in, this time on foot. She raises her staff.

TWINROVA
I agree!
HIIYYYEEEEE!

Twinrova shoots Gorlink and Darunia with a blast of fire and
ice, followed by multiple physical strikes to their bodies.

RUTO
Noooo!

TWINROVA
You have no choice, fish. You’re
next!

Meanwhile, a Kargarok swoops over Zelda’s head. It claws at
her body. She ducks and stabs the bird’s stomach until it
falls violently to the ground.

The Kargarok explodes in a magical pattern of orange sparks.
Zelda turns about-face; Twinrova is hovering over Ruto.

ZELDA
Ruto!
68.
SFX – RUTO’S HEARTBEAT

RUTO
(weak, shallow)
Goddesses… please… Help…
Save… Them…

Her heartbeat sounds like beating wings.
Ruto’s head falls gently on the grass.

ZELDA
(to Twinrova)
You’ll pay for this!

Zelda prepares to strike Twinrova, but Ganondorf steps
forward.

GANONDORF
Princess!

ZELDA
Aahhh! YOU!

Ganondorf raises his sword. He lunges for Zelda, but Impa casts
her chain whip and it catches Dragmire’s sword.

IMPA
Princess… hurry… into the
castle! I don’t know how much
longer I can hold him!

TWINROVA
Oooo! Fresh meat! Would you like to
see Impa die, Zelda?

Pause. Twinrova walks over to Impa.

IMPA
GOOOOO!

ZELDA
Nooo! Impa!!

Ganondorf laughs.

It was then when Zelda remembered
what the Goddesses had said in her
sleep.
69.
FLASHBACK:

NAYRU
The Blade of Evil’s Bane.

DIN
Use it upon Ganon.

FARORE
Return it to your King.

DIN, NAYRU, & FARORE
(together)
Do you understand what you must do?

END FLASHBACK
BACK TO:
ZELDA
Yes.

Zelda raised the Master Sword high
into the air. Three bolts of
lightning struck the blade
simultaneously. Zelda could sense
the power of the Three Golden
Goddesses within the blade.
In a great flash of light, Zelda
plunged the Master Sword into
Ganondorf‘s chest.

Huge flash and magical explosion. Silence.

The great King of Evil had fallen.
Twinrova was nowhere to be found.
Zelda, too, was knocked off her
feet. The Princess spotted Impa
lying on the ground. Zelda rushed
to her side.

Zelda embraces Impa, as she lays on the ground. Her shallow
breathing is evident. Zelda’s Theme begins to play.

ZELDA
Impa! IMPA!!
(quiet)
Please!
70.
IMPA
(weak, shallow)
Thought I… told you… stay in…
the castle.

ZELDA
I’m sorry, Impa, but I needed… oh
my Goddesses, please no, not you…
Impa…

IMPA
Ganondorf’s magic. No potion… or
fairy… can heal me–

ZELDA
I can. I have to!

IMPA
(hollow, stronger)
No time!
You must continue. You know why. You must. It’s time to
fulfill your destiny, and live up
to your legend
(weak again)
I just wish… I could be there…
to… see…

ZELDA
(mournful)
Impa? … Impa, no… don’t leave
me… Mom!… … …

Zelda takes a moment to mourn Impa’s death. Zelda’s
Theme fades to silence.

44 INT. HYRULE CASTLE MAIN HALL – LATER 44
Zelda enters Hyrule Castle. Silence, with the exception of
her footsteps.

KING
Uuuguuughhhh…

ZELDA
(to herself)
Father!

Zelda quickly runs to him…
71.
ZELDA (CONT.)
I’ve brought you the Master Sword.
The Goddesses instructed me to
bring it to you.

KING
(cough)
Good. Very good! I’ve built a
hidden chamber in the basement of
the castle.

A moment of realization.

ZELDA
I’m not the only one who has
visions from the Goddesses… am
I? Why didn’t you tell me?

KING
(chuckles)
A king never reveals all his
secrets, even to his daughter.

A shattering of aggressive dark magic spells breaks the moment.

ZELDA
It’s…

KING
(firm)
Zelda! The Goddesses instructed me
years ago–

Another shattering of magic spells. Ganondorf’s army is
approaching.

KING (CONT.)
–to build a chamber below our
castle. Go! Return the blade to its
slumber.

ZELDA
But father… you…

KING
I have done my part. Leave me to my
fate. We will meet again!

Ganondorf’s army breaks through the final barrier. They enter
the castle halls again. The mass of monsters charge toward Zelda
with certain deadly intent.
72.
Zelda ran toward the nearest
staircase and headed for the
basement.
Spears, swords, arrows, and bombs
were clumsily tossed at her. She
trusted only her instinct.
Staircase after staircase, the mob
behind her grew with intensity.
Then, Zelda recognized a large
statue. She approached. The statue
towered over her — it was
Link;

the Hero of Time.

The force of Ganondorf’s mayhem builds tension, his threat more intense.

ZELDA
Is this the location?

Zelda ran to the other side of the
statue and saw an entrance hidden
under it.

ZELDA
Thank Goddesses!

The music climaxes as the minions enter the room.

Quickly, Zelda entered the secret
chamber and closed the entrance behind her.
All was dark…

Silence.

FADE TO BLACK.

FADE IN:

—TRACK 11—
—ON THE WIND’S BREATH—

45 INT. HYRULE CASTLE HIDDEN CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS 45
Zelda steps deeper into the dark chamber. Her footsteps bounce
across the large corridor walls.

Stood fixed in a column of light
were five statues resembling a Hylian Knight.
73.
Gathered in a circular arrangement,
their swords intersected one

another above a pedestal. Zelda
noticed multiple stained glass
windows on the wall behind each
statue.
The Princess continued forward and
noticed that single beam of light. It
stretched down from the ceiling,
onto the pedestal.

ZELDA
That must be it.

Zelda steps up to the pedestal and prepares the Master Sword
for its slumber. Zelda slowly
places the blade into the stone. The sword and stone emit light
as they lock into place. Zelda steps back.

The Master Sword was finally
secure. Suddenly, the ground shook
and the statues began to move. They
pulled back their swords and held
them tight. The beam of light delicately
disappeared. The room turned pitch
black. Unable to see, Zelda decided
to return to the world above.

46 INT. HYRULE CASTLE BASEMENT – MOMENTS LATER 46
Zelda steps out of the chamber, into the open room before it.
The Hero of Time statue moves forward, blocking the room from
being entered again. Zelda inspects her surroundings.

ZELDA
Everything… has… Lost its color…

Zelda walks over to a frozen Dark Nut. She taps it. It is
indeed without color.

ZELDA (CONT.)
It’s turned to stone… Wh—what’s
going on?

47 INT. HYRULE CASTLE MAIN HALL – LATER 47
Zelda searches for her father on the first floor.
74.
ZELDA
Father! … Father! … Where are you?

Zelda exited the castle,
unable to find her father
or anyone else.

48 EXT. HYRULE CASTLE DRAWBRIDGE – NIGHT 48
Zelda makes her way outside the castle and continues
investigating the strange happenings.

A stagnant wind swept across Hyrule
Field. Lightning crawled through
the clouds. The kingdom was
desolate and unrecognizable. The
fields were stained with blood,
bodies were strewn about, and death
lingered in the air. All color in
the world had disappeared.

ZELDA
What have I done? Where has all the
life gone?

Ganondorf steps behind her.

GANONDORF
Helpless Princess, you still don’t
get it do you?

Zelda turns around, slowly.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
The Gods have chosen me. They were
disappointed with you. You sent
Hyrule spiraling out of control
when you sent that hero back
through time. You sent him to
another world and he took the
Triforce of Courage with him! You
rid this world of the very essence
that held it together… Even I
hadn’t been able to do that! I must
thank you Princess, for playing
your part so wisely. Now its time
for me to take the crown. I am the
true King! I will revive Hyrule. And
you, Zelda, will be my slave.
75.
ZELDA
(praying to herself)
My Great Goddesses, was everything
carried out how you asked of me?
Why is the Evil King still alive?

GANONDORF
You didn’t kill me when you had the
chance decades ago! You enabled me
to return here.

Ganondorf approaches Zelda.

ZELDA
I have done my duty in this world.
In the name of the Great Golden
Goddesses, leave me to my fate!

GANONDORF
Heh, heh, heh! You mindless poe.
I can’t believe even now, you still
follow in the name of your
Goddesses.

A loud boom fills the air. Thunder multiplies with lightning.
The ravenous wind blows in the space between.

ZELDA
The hero will return, one day, he
will return!

GANONDORF
THE HERO IS DEAD! Your people were
destroyed because your blind faith
never prepared you for my
inevitable return. Accept it,
Zelda, your Goddesses have failed
you! And you have failed your
people!

Ganondorf pulls out his sword.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
Oh, your destiny will be fulfilled,
Zelda…

Another lightning bolt rumbles the sky.
Ganondorf stands with glee.
Zelda stands still.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
Ha… haa… haaaah… HAAAH… and
I will be the one to DO IT! HAAAAAH
HAAAH HAAAAAH HAAAAA!
76.
Ganondorf laughs with aggressive ownership of the land. His
laughing magnifies… until a raindrop
hits his forehead.
He stops.
Zelda is surrounded by tiny orbs of light.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
Slave! No! What magic is this?
What are you doing?

Zelda lifts off the ground, only slightly. Ganondorf
attacks her with his sword, and passes
through her transparent form as it dissolves upward into the sky.
The particles of light fly away into the wind.

Another raindrop hits the ground. Then another followed by another.
It begins to sprinkle. Ganondorf steps away from the castle.
The rain picks up. The wind begins to sting.
Thunder paints the air with sonic booms.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
What–what is this?

The rain soon becomes a downpour.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
(to the Goddesses)
HOW DARE YOU!! THIS IS MY LAND!!
I SACRIFICED. I OWN IT!

The wind becomes violent, the river starts to rise,
lightning destroys villages. The destruction goes on.

GANONDORF (CONT.)
(into the wind)
You can not rid me from this land!
I’LL RETURN! I’M INVINCIBLE! HOW
DARE YOU! I’M THE TRUE KIIIIIING!!!

Ganondorf’s voice is washed away by the storm.
The storm continues.

The Three Golden Goddesses looked
down with despair upon the land
they nurtured for eons.
77.
Blood had shed over everything they
created.
Din, Nayru, and Farore answered
Zelda’s prayer. They embodied the
Master Sword with the power to
vanquish the Evil King’s
immortality.
As a dark wind blew across the
battlescapes, the Golden Goddesses
realized they had no more hope and
no other choice. Their tears
flooded the land for many days.
Within weeks, Hyrule had become a
vast ocean.
Thousands of lives were washed
away. None survived beyond those
placed upon the kingdom’s
mountaintops, which soon became
islands sprinkled across a Great
Sea.
With each passing generation, the
kingdom’s memory slowly dissolved.
The only remnants of this tale now
survive upon the wind’s breath — a
story which tells of a brave
princess who fulfilled her destiny
and took her place among legends.

And for those who will listen, the
wind whispers her story…

ZELDA (V.O.)
(whisper)
The Legend of Zelda.

And Hyrule sleeps under a Great Sea…
Forever.

Waves of The Great Sea
crash into one another. Seagulls squawk.
A subtle, slow variation of ‘The Wind Waker Title Theme’ is
performed by a single wind instrument.
FADE TO BLACK.
